The small 1.08 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale occurred in New London County around 8:20 a.m., Thursday, March 28 in Ledyard.

Although no one in Ledyard reported it to police or emergency management, residents in the town of Stonington and in the Mystic/Old Mystic area, which border Ledyard felt it.

Officials in Stonington said they are aware of the earthquake and several people reported it.

In the Mystic/Old Mystic area residents reported loud booms and shaking of buildings.

The US Geological Survey confirmed the "weak" earthquake. By Thursday afternoon 24 people had reported to the department that they felt the quake.

There were no reports of damage.

The last earthquake to hit the same area around the same magnitude was three years ago, the USGS reported.
